Michigan appeals ruling in Asian carp lawsuit

Michigan is appealing a federal judge’s refusal to order closure of navigational locks near Chicago to block the migration of Asian carp to the Great Lakes.

Attorney General Mike Cox on Thursday asked the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals to review a Dec. 2 ruling by Judge Robert Dow Jr., who denied a request by Michigan and five other states to close two locks and quicken a government study of long-term methods to prevent a carp invasion.
