Michigan Charter Boat Association Donates $20,000 to MSU for Research
LANSING – It’s been thirteen years since the MCBA Association entered into an agreement to establish an endowed research fund at Michigan State University. In Aug.2005, Denny Grinold and Frank English presented the first $20,000.00 check to this fund.
In Sept. 2010, I had the honor to present another $20,000.00 check to Mike Jones, Professor and Chairperson, Dept. of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University.
In the beginning we presented the undergraduate with a $500.00 award and this was increased to a $1000.00 award over a period of time. In the near future MCBA will be awarding two $1000.00 awards to undergraduate students at MSU. These awards will continue to be given to students at the Sophomore status or above in the Dept. of Fisheries and Wildlife. Future recipients will continue to meet the minimum grade point average of 2.5 and must have an interest in Fisheries Issues, especially in the Great Lakes and Spots Fishing.
I want to thank Janice and Ken Deaton (Chairs of the Sport Shows) and all Captains who work with them running the Fishing Simulator or have donated a fishing charter for the shows. After all expenses, all proceeds from these shows go toward the scholarship fund.
MCBA members have played an important roll in establishing this scholarship fund. We should all be proud of what MCBA has accomplished over the past thirteen years giving well deserved students a chance to help our Fisheries in the Great Lakes.
